the end of history is a global, collaborative, multidimensional performance (& beyond) project that interrogates liberal values in liberal institutions to imagine a future beyond liberalism.  it’s more than a piece of theatre, it’s a locus for cultural diplomacy, modelling new approaches to transnational collaboration.

in the years after the berlin wall fell francis fukuyama declared that we had reached the end of history, putting a positive spin on margaret thatcher’s declaration that “there is no alternative.”  perhaps fittingly, since then, there’s been a strong (and deregulated) market for dystopian stories—in fiction, film, and on our stages. 

with this project, we are declaring that there ARE alternatives, and setting about imagining them with a team of international writers, thinkers, artists, and idealists. we’re using performance to prototype possibility. 

the latest iterative art experiment from the red light district is assembling a network across oceans and borders to imagine the coming catastrophe—and more importantly, what could come next.  co-operation and collaboration will be the instruments of the new resistance.  there are alternatives. we will shape them together.
